The list goes on, it was a shopping spree as I was telling you, let alone the outrageous amount of 185 € for my train ticket to Waterloo International... and I’m still waiting for the refund of my cancelled flights, but that was achieved only after one week’s efforts over the phone, before, during and after Christmas, desperately trying to speak to a human being who finally told me I would have to wait 6 to 8 weeks. That’s at least another month’s patience by now. Heigh-ho.
Heigh-ho again as I see this:
- 30/12 BP Woodcote S/Serve 7,04- GBP 10,59- €
- A bottle of water, sausages (well yes, pork sausages, what’s wrong with that, he?) and two boxes of PG tips.
Right, they were selling petrol as well but the car’s tank was full already, I just needed the tea. I had seen and recognised my special friend’s favourite tea bags in a supermarket days before but at the time, I thought... “Oh, just forget it, he couldn’t care less anyway”. On my way home and as my brother-in-law was driving me to the railway station, I asked him to stop somewhere in order to finally buy them.
I couldn’t possibly leave England without a gift for Heino, a tall blue eyed Finn who used to live in London and is now based in Brussels, where I met him last year. As I write this and turn my head towards the kitchen, I can still see the box on a shelf. No, it hasn’t been delivered yet and I wonder whether I will ever get the chance to hand it over and sip a cup of tea in his gorgeous company.
He hasn’t been in touch yet, but I know he’s a busy man...

Hey M,
Well imagine a Brits problems LIVING in Brussels. I treat every day like a monopoly game, the money just doesn't seem real. And yes the underground in London is v.expensive.
Also waiting for my refund for cancelled flights. Grrr.
Reading your list I see you like to shop? A girl after my own heart.
And hurry up and give that man the tea already. Head to Casa they do some lovely 'tea for two' cup and saucer sets, give him them and hope that he invites you to join.
Burton is, I think a men's tailoring shop - probably now just sell all men's clobber and Evans is a dress shop with larger sizes. Hope this helps.
Pat, I'm merely a size 12/14 but my larger size sister would have had a good reason to drag me in such a store. Judging by the date of the purchase, I reckon it must have been the Helen-E make-up I bought in there. There was indeed a demonstration stand and I had a free trial, liked their stuff very much and got it without a second thought.
DQ, thanks for the cups tip, what a brilliant idea! I only go shopping when necessary and when in good mood, otherwise it can be a real chore. I must say I appreciated doing it in the UK, I found much more nicer things than in Belgium.
Dip-Dop, this must be the reason why people cross borders to shop. Abroad, you always find cheaper or nicer things. I surely appreciated being there when the sales were already on! Anyway, we probably all think that elsewhere, the grass must be greener. We might be wrong, though.
Getting attuned to Esperanto, are you? I can only imagine people speaking that language in a couple of centuries from now... IF English and French ever become what Latin and ancient Greek are today, "dead" languages, that is.
Do people speak Esperanto? I thought that went out in the 80's! Last time I heard of it anyway!
I like DQ's idea. And even if you don't do that, stopping off to give someone a gift "whilst just passing" is a completely acceptable way to get chatting! Don't forget the biccies too!
Petifilou, you will find all about "The tower of Babble" on Daphne's Blog, enjoy the reading, you will undoubtedly become addicted at once!
I like your ideas very much, girls. I think I'm going to ring his doorbell, whilst just passing in the neighbourhood, with cups, tea & my biscuit... It might work... as soon as I find the courage to do it.
