Cyber’n’ethics

Reading about natural hardness and boosted drive, refreshing your body with numerous miraculous products, etcetera, can be amusing at first but that kind of daily unsolicited information surely gets on one’s nerves in no time.

Much to the chagrin of Hormel Foods, maker of the canned "Shoulder Pork and hAM"/"SPiced hAM" luncheon meat, the term "spam" has come to mean network abuse. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, spam mailing is merely one of its many aspects.

  • Were you aware of just how often your dirty laundry piles up or how empty the refrigerator gets?

  • Have you reached out to any people who don't have access to the Internet lately, how many "real" friends do you have and when was the last time you got together?

  • Are your life experiences and personal contacts diverse and not limited to cybersex?

In case your answers to the above questions were “no, none and I can’t remember”, the time has come to evaluate the impact of the Internet on your life.

You may find out you need immediate help, confidential counselling or worse, you may come to realise you suffer from addiction and find yourself admitted to hospital.

Fortunately, I’m not in such distress. I may surf a bit too long at times but I still have control over my World Wide Web usage. This is why, dear Readers, I won't abuse of your precious time much longer today.

As a matter of fact, any unethical practice is all geek...

...all Greek to me.

MKWM, I feel I may becoming one of them. My cyberfriends take presidence over my "real" friends, and I catch myself wanting to logon at random moments. I can't wait to get home to get my fix of blog chat, and I no longer talk to my boyfriend. How do I get out of this?

Petifilou, I've been asking myself the very same question. It has indeed become a kind of addiction and sometimes, I wish my PC could break down so that I could focus on other things.

Maybe I'm sad but the internet has transformed my life. It keeps me fit. my computer is on the first floor, it keeps me creative - three posts a week which also exercises my little grey cells amd it has given me friends from all over the world. I can't believe you said'I wish my PC could break down.' It is my dread as techy stuff really is all Greek to me.

The Internet has indeed transformed our lifes, it is like a window we can open to grasp the world, a valuable source of information and entertainment, among many other things.

To be honest, I couldn't do without it. When I wish my PC could break down at times, it is when I realise I have been in front of a screen all day long, in office and then at home until late; that is way too many hours a day, all week long.

Techy stuff is also all Greek to me and I would feel very sorry if it should eventually break down, especially now that I'm getting attuned to html language!
